News About Haiti
1/13/2010
Dear Sisters,
I am e-mailing on behalf of Eileen who will be traveling back to DC today. We want to share as much news as we have at the moment. As you may surmise, we have not heard yet from our sisters in Port-au-Prince. We know that Vivian was attending a four day meeting of the Conference of Latin American Religious (CLAR) at a hotel where she was serving as a translator and secretary. Isa had a meeting during the day at the Ministry of Education. Gardyne and Middia were at school.
Our sisters in Gros Morne and Jean Rabel are fine and report feeling the tremors. Today, in an email, Jackie says that a few buildings in Gros Morne did suffer damage, among them the public high school in Gros Morne where a few students have broken bones from being thrown around.
Jackie has also received some word from the Montfortains who were all in PAP for retreat and had stayed for a funeral. They report that they have had no news of their young men studying at the intercongregational theologate which has collapsed. They also gave information about other houses they have in PAP. We are hoping that one of them will try to get news of our sisters.
We would ask that you share news that you may receive with us so that we can share it among ourselves and with our friends, donors, and supporters!
Let us ask our loving God to be with Vivian, Isa, Gardyne, and Middia and with our brothers and sisters in Haiti and to open the hearts of people and nations world-wide to assist Haiti in this catastrophe.
Lovingly,
Marge
